In 2003, the Jubilee instituted the Fellowship Theatre Program to provide theatre training and performance opportunities at the Jubilee for Island youth, while building community involvement, appreciation, and support for performing arts. Past productions under Fellowship Theatre have included Sherlock Holmes Was a Woman, Trick or Treat, and The Wizard of Oz.
Now under a new name, "Artful Dodger" programs will continue to offer opportunities for students to audition for productions and to participate in performance art classes.
The theatre produces 2 to 3 productions a year and invitations to audition are open to students of varied ages and experience. The main focus of these productions is to encourage new students to participate and train for their first time on a professional stage. Students can also be involved in behind the scenes training. There are opportunities to learn stage management, lighting and to create sets and props.
All productions involve experienced theatre technicians, students in training and wonderful parent volunteers.
Children ages 5 to 14 years of age may also register for seasonal classes which include a combination of visual and performance arts. Children can sign up for 10 week sessions which involve them in a creative process from writing/analyzing a short play or skit, character development, creating props/sets and performing their project on stage for their families. These programs are created and taught by a trained theatre and visual arts teacher.
